2006 Chevrolet HHR

Pricing will start at just under $16,000 for the new 2006 Chevrolet HHR that debuts this summer. The relatively small truck, (176.2 inches long), shares the same platform as the Chevy Cobalt and will be powered by the same 2.2-liter Ecotech 4-cylinder engine (145 horsepower and 155 lb.-ft. of torque). A 2.4-liter version of the motor with variable valve timing that puts out 171 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque will also be available.

The HHR will come standard with a 5-speed Getrag manual transmission and a 4-speed electronic automatic will be optional. Other standard features include a remote vehicle starter system (auto tranny only), speed-sensitive steering, fold-flat passenger seat with 60/40 split-folding rear seats, air conditioning and a keyless entry system with an alarm. Another standard feature is an AM/FM CD player with an auxiliary input that allows you to attach an iPod or other portable music device directly into the stereo system. GM says this feature will start appearing in the dash of many vehicles during model year 2006.

Chevrolet touts the HHR as a fusion of design elements found in the 1949 Suburban and the modern convertible truck, the Chevy SSR. The HHR is designed with the aftermarket in mind, and Chevy already enlisted West Coast Customs to "pimp" a concept version of the truck for this year's LA Auto Show.

The HHR will be built in Ramos, Mexico and should be on dealer lots by the end of summer.
